Jesus and Maria José are siblings living together in the house that belonged to their recently deceased father. Their routine is disrupted when Magdalena, their half-sister on their dad’s side, returns from Spain asking for her share of their inheritance. They don’t want to sell the house and in order to keep it, they will deliver a series of sick games where it won’t be easy to define who has the rock, the paper, or the scissors.

Press & Reviews

  • MORBIDLY BEAUTIFUL
“Tense and wonderfully unusual…it keeps you firmly planted on the edge of your seat, until the subtle hints of madness unravel into an explosively satisfying ending in this deadly game of Rock, Paper, and Scissors.”
    [Full Review]

  • Erin Grant. FEAR FOREVER
“A superb character study and an immersive film…ROCK PAPER AND SCISSORS is extremely unique in a lot of ways.” [Full Review]

  • Adrienne Clark. NIGHTMARISH CONJURINGS
“Like if MISERY and FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC gave birth to a Yorgos Lanthimos-directed WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE…a delightfully strange dive into one family’s personal TWILIGHT ZONE. Hop on the ride.” [Full Review]

  • Phil Wheat. NERDLY
“The Wizard of OZ has never, NEVER, been so terrifying!” [Full review]

  • Oriol Hernández. TERRORWEEKEND
“It’s a thriller that makes you impossible to look away, a sequence of events that makes you feel uncomfortable but fascinated by characters with tremendous layers of complexity…” [Full Review in Spanish]

  • Kat Hughes. THN
“The film veers from quiet and creepy to loud and brash, keeping the audience on their toes.” [Full Review]

  • Paul Chapinal. FILM-NEWS (UK)
“There’s little in the way of violence but this is about suspense and mood which is consistently downbeat and twistedly comic. The grungy setting and off-kilter soundtrack are effective foils for the splendid cast.” [Full Review]

  • FANTASTICFEST PROGRAM
“Directors Macarena García Lenzi and Martín Blousson channel the high-camp hijinx of classic genre films like WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? to create a gory black comedy that sets itself apart with stunning performances, offbeat and razor-sharp humor, as well as a hysterical attitude toward violence.

Set almost entirely within the house of the trio’s recently deceased father, ROCK, PAPER, AND SCISSORS sees the three engage in emotional, mental, and physical warfare that will leave permanent scars. With visual cues constantly influenced by popular culture, including an unrelenting obsession with Oz, this Argentinian chamber piece lures you in from its first minute and keeps you laughing and squirming until its gore-soaked end.

Produced by genre stalwart Javier Diment, ROCK, PAPER, AND SCISSORS is the sort of directorial debut that genre lovers pray for, as sharp as a fang and as mean as a wolf.” [Full Review]
